Summer Programs: Early College Program

The Early College Program (ECP) is a residential program for female high school students, who are college bound rising juniors, rising seniors or graduating seniors seeking an early college experience. Since 1989 ECP has been chosen as the program to launch the college career of hundreds of exceptional young scholars.

ECP is an intense academic program that offers college credit courses in English or Biology for current high school juniors and seniors. A non-credit STEM module is another option and is also open to current high school sophomores. A cumulative 3.0 GPA along with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in English, science and math courses is required. Field trips, city excursions, campus entertainment and college prep sessions are integral to the program.

Eligible students may select and attend one of the following modules:

Spelman Summer Programs ECP English
ECP English 101 offers a college credit course earning (4) college credits.  This course provides opportunities for the student to learn how to read, think and write critically in preparation for a First-Year Composition course.  The course emphasizes analysis, logical fallacies, reasoning and writing under a timed circumstance.  A minimum grade of "C" us required to earn the credit and generate a college transcript.

Open to current 11th and 12th grade students.
 
Spelman Summer Programs ECP Bio
ECP Biology 100 offers a college credit course in The Biology of Women earning four (4) credits. This course provides perspectives on the distinct biology of women. The roles of science in society and women’s empowerment through knowledge of their bodies will be examined. The course features lectures and laboratory. A minimum grade of “C” is required to earn the credit and generate a college transcript.

Open to current 11th and 12th grade students.
 
ECP Math
ECP Math 107 offers a college credit course in Contemporary Mathematics earning three (3) credits. This is an introduction to mathematics in the real world, including elementary probability and statistics, financial and consumer mathematics, with emphasis on quantitative reasoning skills and problem solving. A minimum grade of "C" is required to earn the credit and generate a college transcript.

Open to current 11th and 12th grade students.

Math 107 will NOT count for the following majors
Biochemistry, Computer Science, Chemistry, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Undecided Science, Biology, Environmental Science (not Studies), Health Science, Pre-med/Pre-health (major or minor in any area)  

Math 107 WILL satisfy the core requirement the following majors
Anthropology, Art, Comparative Women's Studies, Dance Performance and Choreography, Documentary Film Making, Education, English, Environmental Studies (not Science), Foreign Languages, History, International Studies, Music, Philosophy, Photography ,Political Science, Psychology, Religious Studies, Sociology, Theater and Performance, or Undecided Non-science

 
Spelman Summer Programs ECP STEM
ECP STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) offers a non-credit module featuring a selected STEM topic with interactive lectures, quantitative research analysis, group project, report writing, and field trips to local research facilities.

Open to current 10th, 11th and 12th grade students.

 

Application to a high school pre-college summer program is not an application for admission to the degree programs of Spelman College. No promises are made regarding admission to the first-year class. Parents/guardians must give their permission for students to participate in summer programs and activities.
